:wave Welcome to Major Geeks!:major So you installed the chipset driver before installing the sound driver? Well, Gateway is pretty well known for having incorrect and/or non-working drivers at their web site, it's happened to me on many occasions. Give me a little time and I'll try to track down the correct drivers for you.

In the meantime, hopefully someone else will come along and solve this for you if I take too long EDIT: try for the Sigmatel AC97 ICH4. The download is a file called 'E0100027.EXE'. When you run it, it will extract to a folder on your desktop (or where-ever you download the EXE) called '3900ich4'. When installing the driver, try using the Hardware Wizard's Have Disk method instead of simply launching the setup.exe file. Keep us posted! Did you try the link I posted above? The one in the Korean forum?

If not, go to Add/Remove Programs and remove any sound drivers that may be listed. Install the chipset drivers, reboot, then install the driver I linked to above (I'll link you to it again ). Do not use the setup.exe.

Go to the device manager, and use the 'Have Disk' method where you have to tell the hardware wizard exactly where to find the driver, and if you get any warnings, install it anyway. Then reboot when it finishes. If you've already done this, exactly how I've detailed here, then, unfortunately, I'm out of ideas. Unless it's an HD audio device (which I really doubt due to the fact that it's ICH4 or 5), then try installing KB888111 from Scroll down until you see KB888111 and click the green 'download' on the right. Reboot when it finishes. Be sure to install KB888111 before installing the sound driver, but after installing the chipset driver.
